Sirach 35:12–14, 16–18; Psalm 34 “The Lord hears the cry of the poor.” 2 Timothy 4:6–8, 16–18; Luke 18:9–14. God is attuned to the prayers of the poor and lowly, of those who suffer, of those who are repentant. Their need for God’s mercy draws God’s response. Sirach echoes the psalmist, who plainly states that the Lord hears the cry of the poor. Paul, persecuted and imprisoned for his work, is confident of God’s help. Jesus tells us that God exalts the remorseful sinner who humbly asks for God’s mercy. Let us listen to God’s word, aware of our sinfulness and needfulness.
Domenica 30A Del Tempo Ordinario

Il Papa gets New Shoes!
“…[Kentucky] priest, Father Jim Sichko, has had the privilege of meeting Pope Francis on numerous occasions, and every time he visits the Pope he likes to bring him a gift from Kentucky. Sichko has primarily given the Pope a bottle of bourbon in the past. But Sichko wanted to get the Pope something different for his latest visit last week, so he thought of giving him customized shoes from a local shoe designer. ‘I think that they thought in the box was bourbon, and when I opened it up he was like ‘wow,’ Sichko said. ‘They’re so bright and so stunning.’ The shoes, a pair of Nike Blazer Mid ‘77s, are white and yellow, the colors of the Papal flag. On the side of each shoe partially covering the Nike logo is the Pope’s Coat of Arms. The words ‘Pope’ and ‘Francis’ are on the backs of each shoe.
The shoes were created by Billy Hobbs, the owner of True Blue Customs. Hobbs has always had a passion for shoes and art and has been personalizing shoes professionally since 2013. Hobbs has designed shoes for celebrities before, including John Calipari, Drake, Kid Rock, Paul McCartney and Snoop Dogg, but making shoes for the Pope is something he never expected to do.
‘I’ve done some cool stuff but that’s gotta be on the top of the list,’ Hobbs said. ‘I don’t know if I’ll be able to top that one.’ Sichko provided some ideas to Hobbs for the design but Sichko credited Hobbs for the work. ‘When he presented them to me the night before I was leaving, I was just overwhelmed,’ Sichko said. Pope Francis had a similar reaction when Sichko gave him the shoes. ‘I opened it up and he went ‘wow,’ and he immediately picked them and looked at them,’ Sichko said. ‘I wanted to show him also on the back how it said, ‘Pope Francis,’ which I had the opportunity to do...’”

NO on Prop 1: “As you likely know, we are at a critical moment right now in the history of California: voters this November will be asked whether or not they support the ‘right’ to abortion for all nine months, without any restrictions or limitations, being written into our state constitution. It is indeed a very disturbing indication of the state of our current political climate that such a question will be asked in the form of Proposition 1 on the November 8 ballot.
Proposition 1 was passed by the state legislature and signed by the governor, and now must go to a vote of the people, requiring a simple majority for its approval. The California bishops have made defeating Prop 1 our number one priority for this year, and we ask every Catholic in the state to become educated on this dangerous bill, encourage others to oppose it, and support the “No on Prop 1 Campaign” with your prayer, fasting and financial contributions.”- Archbishop Salvatore Cordileone
