Acts 2:1-11; 1 Corinthians 12:3b-7, 12-13 or Galatians 5:16-25; John 29:19-23 or John 15:26-27, 16:12-15. In the first reading, the Holy Spirit descends upon the disciples who were all in one place together. They began proclaiming the Gospel in different language and all could understand them. Saint Paul encourages the Galatians to live by the Spirit, and lists the fruits of the Spirit that will arise from doing so. Jesus promises his disciples that he and the Father will send the Advocate, who will guide them and glorify Christ.
From the Pastor's Desk
Dear Brothers and Sisters in Christ,
Happy feast of Pentecost! It is our Church Birthday today. We believe that the Holy Spirit continues to work to purify our Church and each one of us. The Holy Spirit also helps to transform us to be closer to God. The saints who we celebrate are the example of how the Holy Spirit guides them and leads them to be holy.
This past Monday, we celebrated St. Mary Mazzarello. St. John Bosco and St. Mary Mazzarello founded the order of The Daughters of Mary Help of Christians (FMA). A brief description about the saint’s life:
Mary Mazzarello was born in 1837 at Mornese, Italy. Her family upbringing guided her in the way of solid piety, tireless hard work, and a profound judgment and practical sense which she later manifested as a Superior. At the age of fifteen she joined the association of the Daughters of Mary Immaculate, and began apostolic work among the girls of the neighborhood. A serious attack of typhus contracted at the age of twenty- three made a deep spiritual impression on her: the experience of her physical frailty deepened her abandonment to God and prompted her to open a dress-making workshop to teach local girls to work, pray and love God. Thanks to her intense sacramental life and the enlightened guidance of Don Pestarino, she made great progress in the spiritual life.
In 1872 Don Bosco chose her to take on the foundation of the Institute of the Daughters of Mary Help of Christians. As Superior she proved herself adept in spiritual training and guidance, and she had the particular charisma of a happy and reassuring tranquility, radiating joy and involving other young girls in a commitment to the education of women.
She left to her Daughters an educational tradition permeated by evangelical guidelines: the search for God known through enlightened catechesis and burning love, responsibility in work, sincerity and humility, austerity of life, and joyful self-giving. She died at Nizza Monferrato on 14 May 1881. She was beatified by Pius XI in 1938, and Pius XII canonized her on June 24, 1951.
Today the Daughters of Mary Help of Christians has 11,000 members worldwide and they are present in 97 countries throughout the world. Let us give thanks to the Lord for the Salesian Sisters who dedicated their lives to serve many poor young people.
Happy Feast of St. Mary Mazzarello!

Mission Appeal: This year’s Mission Appeal is on May 25 & 26, and here is a message from our visiting missionary: Hello friends! My name is Fr. Praveen Mummadi (Fr. Praveen). I am a missionary priest from the Diocese of Kurnool in southern India. Today, I want to share with you the realities, situations and needs of the Catholic faithful in India.
The main challenges of our mission include giving free education to over three-thousand poor children, medical support of the less privileged, self empowerment of women, and evangelization. In India, Christianity is a minority and only 1% of the population is Catholic. We have over one-hundred priests and over three-hundred nuns (sisters) who serve the poor in our diocese. There also are many young men and women who are discerning their call to be future priests and nuns.
We welcome you to participate and learn about Catholicism in our part of the world. We hope you find it to be enlightening and inspiring. We thank you greatly for your attention and generosity. – Fr. Praveen
