Job 38:1, 8-11; 2 Corinthians 5:14-17; Mark 4:35-41. In the first reading, the Lord speaks to Job from the storm, asking him who it was that took control of the stormy sea. Paul writes to the Corinthians that whoever is in Christ is a new creation. In Mark’s Gospel, Jesus calms the storm with a simple command and asks them why they are terrified, saying, Do you not yet have faith?
Domenica 12A Del Tempo Ordinario
Saint WHO?
Saints who were devoted to Saint Joseph
St. John XXIII
John XXIII, who reigned as pope from 1958 until his dearth in 1963, was given the middle name Joseph at birth and became a bishop on March 19, the feast of Saint Joseph. These facts influenced him deeply. He is sometimes called a Pope of Saint Joseph, (like Blessed Pius IX) and seriously considered the name Joseph when he was elevated to the papacy. He decided against it out of respect for precedent, no prior pope having taken that name. Bit though he took the name John, he always celebrated March 19 as his name day.
Pope John referred to Saint Joseph frequently in his addresses, and was open about his personal devotion. “He is the most powerful intercessor, from whom nobody is turned away without being heard.” One year, on the feast of the Presentation, he had candles sent to all the principal shrines of Mary and Joseph. He made a point of beautifying Saint Joseph’s altar in Saint Peter’s Basilica as a symbol of the increased devotion he wished to see instilled in the faithful.
He established Saint Joseph as patron of Vatican II, and furthered the causes for Joseph’s devotees Leonard Murialdo and André Bessette. Effective December 8, 1962, Pope John had Joseph’s name added to the canon of the Mass. Pope John died on June 3, 1963.
“Saint Joseph...amid the worries of material life, your soul was full of deep peace and sang out in true joy…Assure those you protect that they do not labor alone “ -Prayer of Saint John XII.

San Calogero: Today we honor San Calogero, patron of Sciacca, Sicily at the 12 noon Mass. San Calogero, pray for us!
From Pope Francis: “In today’s liturgy the episode of the storm calmed by Jesus (Mk 4:35-41) is told. The boat on which the disciples are crossing the lake is beaten by the wind and waves and they are afraid they will sink. Jesus is with them on the boat, yet he is in the stern asleep on the cushion. The disciples, filled with fear, cry out to him: ‘Teacher, do you not care if we perish?’ (v. 38)
In these situations and in many others, we too feel suffocated by fear and, like the disciples, risk losing sight of the most important thing. On the boat, in fact, even if he is sleeping, Jesus is there, and he shares with his own all that is happening. His slumber, when on the one hand it surprises us, on the other it puts us to the test. The Lord is there, present; indeed, he waits – so to speak – for us to engage him, to invoke him, to put him at the center of what we are experiencing. His slumber causes us to wake up. Because to be disciples of Jesus it is not enough to believe God is there, that he exists, but we must put ourselves out there with him; we must also raise our voice with him. Hear this: we must cry out to him. Prayer, many times, is a cry: ‘Lord, save me!’” –Pope Francis, Angelus Message, June 20, 2021.
