The 15th Sunday in Ordinary Time

Deuteronomy 30:10–14; Psalm 69; Colossians 1:15–20;  Luke 10:25–37. Moses speaks to a sinful people in the first reading, pleading with them to keep the LORD’s commandments as they repent with their whole heart and soul. In the Gospel, a scholar of the law—of all God’s commandments—goes one step further, asking Jesus what he must do to inherit eternal life. Realizing that loving one’s neighbor is at the heart of the answer, he asks Jesus who his neighbor is. It is in this context that Jesus tells the parable of the Good Samaritan, asking the questioner who was the true neighbor. May today’s readings inspire us to accept the challenge to treat all others—friends or strangers—as worthy of our love.

Accolta come espressione del dinamismo della vita, che scaturisce dall’amore, la Legge di Dio permette di entrare nella luce che indica il cammino verso il regno. 今天的讀經以天主的法律為中心，讀經一：「你們必須聽從上主你們的天主的話，謹守這法律上所記載的誡命和法令」。（申命記30:14）這些法令從一始就銘刻在人的心裏，就是愛！

今天的福音記述法律博士試探耶穌，詢問有關進入永生之路，耶穌明知他的詭計，要他親自說出進入永生之路是全心、全靈、全力、全意愛上主，并愛近人如愛自己一樣，耶穌用一個故事去表達愛的意義。經師、肋未人看到不幸被刧受傷的人都漠然地走過，沒有動憐憫心，而被猶太人輕視的撒瑪黎雅人卻向他伸出援手。

讀經二（哥一：15-20）說「耶穌是不可見的天主的肖像，是萬物的首生者……是教會的頭。因祂在十字架上所流的血建立了和平」。但祂卻願意以人的形體被人認識，受人愛。祂說：「誰對我最小兄弟中的一個所做的，就是對我做了。 」

今天耶穌也問我們：「你認為這三個人當中，誰是那被刧者的近人？」耶穌要我們認清誰是我們的近人，我們自己可以做誰的近人。祂也對我們說：「你去，也照樣做吧！」
 
 
Maria was born to a poor farming family in Corinaldo, Italy. When she was six, her father moved the family, hoping to find a better situation, but three years later he died of malaria. Nine-year-old Maria was given care of her five siblings while her mother labored in the fields to provide for them. As young as she was, she clung to prayer, constantly praying the rosary which she kept wrapped around her wrist.

The family shared their lodgings and field with the Serenellis, a father and a son. When twenty-year-old Alessandro began to make advances on Maria, she resisted him. On July 5, 1902, Alessandro attempted to assault Maria in the kitchen of the lodge. Maria fought him off, pleading with him to consider his soul. Enraged, Alessandro stabbed her fourteen times. Maria succumbed to her wounds two days later, but not before declaring, “I forgive him for the love of Jesus...and I want him to come with me to paradise...I want him at my side...May God forgive him, because I have already forgiven him.” She was not yet twelve years old.

Sentenced to thirty years in prison, the unrepentant Alessandro became depressed until Maria came to him in a dream, surrounded ny lilies. After his release, he befriended Maria’s mother and contributed to Maria’s beatification proceedings. He spent his final thirty-three years at a Capuchin monastery, where he became a lay brother.

Merciful Father, through the intercession of Saint Maria Goretti, draw me into your love that I might see others as you see them and forgive them as you forgive them.
