I Kings 19:4-8; Ephesians 4:30-5:2; John 6: 41-5 1. In the first reading, Elijah prays for death. But an angel of the Lord tells him to get up and eat. Elijah does, then walks for 40 days and nights to Mount Horeb. Saint Paul urges the Ephesians to be imitators of God. In the Gospel, Jesus declares that he is the bread of life which he will give for the life of the world.

“Our dear little mother can do anything for us, We are her children.” When Raymund Kolbe was a boy, he received a vision of Our Lady, who presented him with two crowns. One was white for purity, the other red for martyrdom. Raymund chose both. He became a Franciscan priest, taking the religious name Maximilian Mary. In keeping with Franciscan tradition, Father Maximilian cultivated an ardent love for Mary Immaculate—the Immaculata, he called her.
Fueled by this love, he worked wonders in the Marian apostolate. Despite terrible health, he established large media centers in Poland and Japan to promote Catholic truth and Marian devotion. He encouraged the faithful to consecrate themselves to Mary, a sure path to Jesus and a swift means to spread the kingdom of the Sacred Heart. “Never worry that you do not feel this love,” he said. “what counts is the will to love.”
To belong totally to Mary, for Kolbe, was to enter into the life of the Trinity. Mary, wrote Kolbe, “belongs to God in a perfect way...She is as if a part of the Most Holy Trinity, although she is a finite creature.” Kolbe’s devotion stayed strong in the darkness of Auschwitz, where he gave his life for a fellow prisoner in August 1941.
O Immaculata, refuge of sinners and our most loving mother, bring all that we are and all that we have to Jesus.
