Isaiah 60:1-6; Ephesians 3:2-3a, 5-6; Matthew 2:1-12. Isaiah joyfully foretells of the light that emerges from darkness at the coming of Christ. In the second reading, Saint Paul reminds his listeners that, whether Gentile or Jew, they are all part of the one body of Christ, the Church. In the Gospel, the three wise men visit the Christ-child, bearing gifts to pay him homage.
From the Pastor’s Desk
Dear Brothers and Sisters in Christ,
Today we celebrate the Epiphany of the Lord which means the Manifestation. For the Eastern Churches, it is their Christmas. The baby Jesus, revealed to the three Kings (magi), indicates that the Child Jesus belongs to the whole world. His name Jesus means Savior who saves us all from our sins. The magi bring him the gifts of gold, frankincense, and myrrh.
What gifts can we bring to Jesus in this new year? We normally make a New Year’s resolution. May I suggest that we all together make this new year a year to bring Jesus the gift of our faith, our love, our fidelity, and our generosity as we encounter Jesus in our prayers and in other people.
I am grateful for your gifts of generosity to our church community. We are in the process of replacing the church kneelers and many of you have already contributed to this project. Once it is completed, we will have nice and quiet kneelers. All of us will feel more comfortable while kneeling during prayer.
Our church community has already brought the gifts of volunteering and supportive service to those in need. The St. Vincent de Paul Society provided wonderful hot meals for unfortunate people right before Thanksgiving as well as providing a delivered lunch for the people right before Christmas.
May you and your family find the New Year to be filled with many blessings, good health and prosperity!
In the Child Christ,
Fr. Tho Bui, SDB
Pastor

Particular Items
Second Collection: Today we have a second collection for the Church maintenance fund. We have an endless number of repairs in our beautiful old building, so please be generous!
Pew Kneeler Project: Do your knees hurt at Mass? YES! Are you tired of it sounding like the 4th of July when people drop their pew kneelers to the wooden floor? YES! In preparation for our 100th Anniversary in November, Fr. Tho is installing new pew kneelers which will be much SOFTER, and they will have a pneumatic plunger so that they go QUIETLY down on to the floor. A late, great parishioner left us a nice bequest that will pay for more than half of this project, but we still need around $35,000 to make it happen. Can you help? Checks for this should have "Pew Kneelers" in the notation field, and if you donate online, please specify "Pew Kneelers." https://salesiansspp.org/donations
Pew Kneeler Work:/Church Closure On January, 9, 10, & 11 we will be taking the old kneelers out of the Church, following the 9:00AM Mass, so the Church will be closed after 9:30 on those days. We need men to help with this project. It is not difficult but many hands make light work. Call 415-421-0809 or email [email protected] if you can help. We hope to have the new kneelers installed by January 28.
Eucharistic Adoration & Confession/ Anointing of the Sick: We have Adoration & Confession every Friday, following the 7:00 AM Mass. And on the first Friday of the month we have the Anointing following the 7:00 AM Mass.
玫瑰經 Chinese Apostolate First Sunday Rosary: The Apostolate meets every first Sunday of the month following the 10:15 AM Mass, to pray the Rosary in the Don Bosco Room.
Choose Life! 20th Annual Walk for Life West Coast: Join fellow Catholics and Pro‐Lifers from all over California and beyond as we stand up for the littlest among us at the 20th Annual Walk for Life West Coast in San Francisco on January 20, 2024. This year marks the Walk’s 20th anniversary of standing for the littlest among us. Who would have thought that when Dolores Meehan walked into our then-pastor Fr. John Malloy’s office in 2004 that that would be the start of America’s second largest pro-life event? The day begins with the Walk for Life Mass at 9:30AM at St. Mary’s Cathedral celebrated by Archbishop Salvatore Cordileone.
Adoration for Life: As always Saints Peter and Paul will host all-night Eucharistic Adoration for Life the night before the Walk. If you’d like to schedule an hour (or more) to be with Our Lord during the night, call Gibbons at the parish office. For more, visit walkforlifewc.com or call 415‐658‐1793.

And on Sunday, January 28, we celebrate the Feast of our order’s founder, St. John Bosco (the actual feast is the 31st, but we are allowed to celebrate on the closest Sunday). Mary Help of Christians, and all Salesian saints, pray for us!
Pre-K Open House: Come learn about our Laura Vicuña Pre-Kindergarten, the oldest Catholic Pre– K in the city of San Francisco!
