Proverbs 8:22–31; Psalm 8 “O Lord, our God, how wonderful your name in all the earth!” Romans 5:1–5; John 16:12–15 Before the Trinity was revealed, the author of Proverbs personified God’s wisdom as an entity distinct from God and deigning to stay on the earth God created. Saint Paul teaches the Romans that through the Son and Holy Spirit, we share in God’s grace and God’s love. In the Gospel Jesus promises his disciples the Holy Spirit, who guides us to all truth. With all that we have received from our generous God, we can truly sing, “O Lord, our God, how wonderful your name in all the earth!”
Dear Parishioners , Today we celebrate the Most Holy Trinity. It is a mystery that our human knowledge cannot comprehend. How can we understand one God with three persons? Picture to ourselves a triangle. There are three corners of the triangle and each corner connects to the other corners. All three corners are equal to each other but there is only one triangle. This image may help us to understand that the Most Holy Trinity connects to each other through love. God the Father loves God the Son and God the Holy Spirit. God the Son loves God the Father and God the Holy Spirit. God the Holy Spirit loves God the Father and God the Son. We know that God is love (1 John 4:8). The three persons of God are bonded together in love and present in this world.
The Bible describes the presence of the Most Holy Trinity when Jesus was baptized at the Jordan River. As soon as Jesus came up out of the water, heaven was opened and he saw the spirit of God descending like a dove and alighting on him. Then a voice said from heaven, “This is my beloved Son with whom I am well pleased.” (Matthew 3:17). God the Father confirms this is God the beloved Son, listen to him. Jesus the Son of God the Father promised that he will send God the Holy Spirit to help and guide his followers. This indicates that there is truly the love and relationship of the Holy Trinity. Jesus reveals to his disciples the relationship between him and God the Father saying, “The Father and I are one” (John 10:30). Jesus tells his disciples: I will send the Holy Spirit to guide them. Trying to comprehend the mystery of the Trinity is beyond our knowledge. Perhaps, we can focus on the love and the relationship that bonds the three persons of God together, and reflect on how we can practice God’s love in our lives.
Through our baptism, God calls us to be Christ-like and guided by the Holy Spirit. In a family the love and relationship between husband, wife, and children can imitate the love and relationship of the Trinity. When the family loves and cares for one other, it will bring them closer to God. Jesus tells us “You shall love the Lord, your God, with all your heart, with all your soul, and with all your mind…You shall love your neighbor as yourself.” (Matthew 22:37-39). This is the kingdom of God’s love that Jesus wants all of us to build in our families and in this world.
May the love of the Most Holy Trinity help us to share the bond of love with each other so that we can make the present of the Trinity in our lives and in our world.
Have a blessed week!
