Wisdom 11:22-12:2; 2 Thessalonians 1:11-2:2; Luke 19:1-10. In the Book of Wisdom, the author says that God loves all things because they are his, and he overlooks sin so that all may repent. In the second reading, Paul offers prayer and encouragement to the Thessalonians in their efforts to glorify the Lord. In Luke’s Gospel, Jesus empowers Zacchaeus to return to right relationship with him.

From the Pastor’s Desk
Dear Parishioners,
Last week I attended a Vietnamese Priest Convocation in Dallas Texas. Among us, there were two priests who are chaplains for the military. They shared how, after being called as chaplains, their lives had changed. They feel that their priestly ministry is fulfilling as they accompany the soldiers, wherever they go, as spiritual fathers. The two priests encouraged the young priests to consider joining the chaplaincy ministry.
In today’s Gospel of Luke, Jesus said to Zacchaeus, “Today salvation has come to this house because this man too is a descendent of Abraham.” Jesus called Zacchaeus and his life changed. Zacchaeus encounters Jesus and is touched by his words. He promises Jesus that he would pay back all those he defrauded, and give 20% back. Plus, he gives half of his possessions to the poor. Remember, Zacchaeus is a tax collector and public sinner. But he repents, and makes amends for his past wrongdoing. Jesus told him, “You are saved.”
God calls us to follow, and change our lives. Sometimes God takes us on paths that we would never have dreamed of. An example: Saint Mother Teresa of Calcutta changed her vocation when she heard a call from God. She was teaching at a girl’s school. One day, while riding a train to a retreat, in a vision she saw the misery the people suffered in Calcutta. St. Mother Teresa exchanged her starched habit for coarse cotton saris, left her convent, and stepped onto the streets of Calcutta. She walked along the streets and saw people starving, some dying. Her heart took pity upon them. She said, “We cannot let the children of God die like animals on the streets.” So she picked up a dying person, held him in her arms and brought him to her convent to care for him. St. Mother Teresa said, “I can see the face of Jesus on these faces of suffered people.”
Let us allow Christ to touch us, and we need to change our Christian way of life, to love and serve those in need. When Christ comes again, we hope to hear that “You are saved.”
Have a blessed week!

VOTE “NO” ON PROPOSITION 1: “Proposition 1 is a worst-case scenario for abortion in California. It is an expensive and misleading ballot measure that allows unlimited late-term abortions — for any reason, at any time, even moments before birth, paid for by YOUR tax dollars. Prop 1 isn’t needed. Sadly, California already has some of the most permissive abortion laws in the nation that would remain in effect without the amendment, including our current limit on late-term abortions that are permitted only for the life and health of the mother. Prop 1 destroys this limit.
California does not limit state spending on abortion, and with thousands more traveling from other states, the cost will be in the hundreds of millions. Don’t hand lawmakers a blank check to pay for abortions, and don’t let them make California an “abortion sanctuary.” To learn more, and to see a great video against Prop 1 from Archbihop Cordileone, visit sfarchdiocese.org/noonprop1.
