2 Maccabees 7:1–2; Psalm 17; 2 Thessalonians 2:16—3:5; Luke 20:27–38 or 20:27, 34–38 The selections from scripture that we hear today portray people whose faith in eternal life with the Lord gives them confidence during times of trial. In Maccabees, seven brothers and their mother were arrested and tortured for their faith. Saint Paul is pursued by wicked people who will do anything to stop him from preaching. Jesus is in Jerusalem now, where soon he will be arrested and sentenced to death. But the dead will rise, Jesus tells the Sadducees, for the Lord is God of the living. May this give us hope as well.
Domenica 32A Del Tempo Ordinario
SAINT WHO?
Blessed Elizabeth Czacka
Róża Czacka was born in 1876 in a part of Poland that now belongs to Ukraine. Her family was well connected in both civil and ecclesiastical politics, and she received an outstanding education. Fluent in five languages, including Latin, she became a talented musician, dancer, and athlete—all as her vision began to deteriorate from an eye disease.
At twenty-two, a riding accident caused her retinas to completely detach, and she was left blind. No cure could be found, and finally, it is said, her doctor to0ld her: “You have the education. Take care of the blind people in the region, because no one does.” She took his words to heart. Beginning with visits to patients and fundraising efforts, Róża went on to travel throughout Europe, learning about the best ways to help the blind. She began a drop-in clinic and shelter for them, and finally established the Society for the Care of the Blind in Warsaw.
As World War I rages, she joined the Franciscans, taking the name Elizabeth. She established a new community of sisters dedicated to the support of the blind and to making reparation for the spiritual blindness of the world. When Mother Elizabeth died in 1961, her funeral Mass was preached by Cardinal Stephen Wysziński, with whom she was beatified in 2021.
Father of Lights, through the prayers of Blessed Elizabeth, may we find light in darkness,
and dedicate our strengths and our weaknesses alike to your service

NO on Prop 1: “As you likely know, we are at a critical moment right now in the history of California: voters this November will be asked whether or not they support the ‘right’ to abortion for all nine months, without any restrictions or limitations, being written into our state constitution. It is indeed a very disturbing indication of the state of our current political climate that such a question will be asked in the form of Proposition 1 on the November 8 ballot.
Proposition 1 was passed by the state legislature and signed by the governor, and now must go to a vote of the people, requiring a simple majority for its approval. The California bishops have made defeating Prop 1 our number one priority for this year, and we ask every Catholic in the state to become educated on this dangerous bill, encourage others to oppose it, and support the “No on Prop 1 Campaign” with your prayer, fasting and financial contributions.”- Archbishop Salvatore Cordileone
