Ezekiel 17:22-24; 2 Corinthians 5:6-10; Mark 4:26-34. Ezekiel speaks for the Lord, who will take a shoot from a cedar and plant it on the mountain heights of Israel, where it will bear fruit. In the second reading, Paul writes that we walk by faith, not by sight. In the Gospel, Jesus describes the kingdom of God using parables of a wheat field and a mustard seed.
Domenica 11A Del Tempo Ordinario
From the Pastor’s Desk
Dear Brothers and Sisters in Christ,
I would like to share with you a few events that happened or are upcoming at Saints Peter and Paul Parish.
Two months ago, there were 20 young men and women were Confirmed by Archbishop Cordileone. Two of them joined our parish group from St. Patrick’s parish in downtown San Francisco.
A month ago, 15 students received First Holy Communion. They are from SSPP School and our CCD program.
Two weeks ago, 28 students graduated from Saints Peter and Paul School. We had a wonderful outgoing class of students!
A month ago Salesian Boys and Girls Club held a successful Gala. The funds raised help their children’s programs and scholarship fund. The Club serves about 160-200 kids from SSPP School and other public school in our neighborhood. The Club started their summer programs last Monday.
The Centennial Committee is planning for the 100th Anniversary of our church in November 9-10, 2024. You probably already received “Safe the Date” card. I hope you can plan to join us this wonderful celebration!
These are some of the exciting ministries that we have here at the parish. They reflect today’s Gospel of Mark, which describes how to build the Kingdom of God here on earth. These activities are like the seeds that we plant to help young people become good Christians and good Citizens. With God’s help, we hope these young people will contribute to building God’s Kingdom of justice and peace and love. Pope Saint John Paul II, at World Youth Day in Denver, Colorado. 1993 told the young people, “You are the future of our Church.” Together, let us help our young people bear fruit by contributing to help our broken world as we experience today.
We too, the adults, are called to build the Kingdom of God on this earth. The kingdom of love and peace. May the Kingdom of God become true in our time.
Have a blessed week!
Fr. Tho

Happy Fathers Day! “How, then, is St. Joseph the exemplar of fatherhood? They should reflect, in their families the seven virtues which the Church specially honors in St. Joseph’s relationship to Jesus and Mary. Like Joseph, fathers should be:
⁕ most just, without partiality or human respect.
⁕ most chaste, according to their married state of life.
⁕ most prudent, in knowing God’s will through constant prayer.
⁕ most valiant in courageously accepting the cross every
moment of the day.
⁕ most obedient in seeing every event as part of divine Providence and responding with, “Here I am Lord. I am ready to do Your will.”
⁕ most faithful in loving their wives with perfect fidelity, and their children with tireless generosity.
⁕ the strength of the home by their exercise of manly courage. They are to protect their wives and children from the plots of the modern Herods who are inspired by the evil spirit to destroy the Christian family in the modern world.
‘St. Joseph, spouse of the Blessed Virgin Mary and foster father of the Son of God, obtain from Jesus the grace we fathers need to raise our families according to the will of God. We need light to recognize our grave responsibility as husbands and fathers. Above all we need the courage to persevere in the fatherly care of our families through time into the endless reaches of eternity. Amen.’” – Fr. John A. Hardon, SJ

MARK YOUR CALENDARS! On November 9-10, 2024 we will mark the 100 Year Anniversary of Saints Peter and Paul Church. Of course, the first Saints Peter and Paul was destroyed in the earthquake and fire of 1906, but the cornerstone for this lovely Church you see around you was laid in 1924, so this year marks 100 years!
On SATURDAY, November 9, at 5:00 PM, we will have a special Mass which will include a Renewal of Marriage Vows for all who were married here, (or were married in another Catholic Church).
Anniversary Banquet: There will also be a prime rib banquet, after the Mass, open to all, in the auditorium. Tickets for the Saturday banquet are $80; $20 for children under 12. For more info and banquet tickets, visit salesiansspp.org/100years, or call the parish office at 415-421-0809.
AND on SUNDAY, November 10, at 11:00 AM we will have our 100 Year Anniversary celebration Mass followed by a luncheon for all in the auditorium.
HELP! & GUESS WHO? As we prepare for the 100th Anniversary we need help from parishioners. Were you or your parents married here? We want pictures to use at the Renewal of Vows Mass. Call Gibbons at the parish office or email [email protected]. Meanwhile, can you name this lovely SSPP couple? (Last week’s mystery couple were George and Marie DeMartini, parents of Randy, married here in 1955).
