Deuteronomy 6:2-6; Hebrews 7:23-28; Mark 12:28b-34. Moses speaks to the people, telling them to observe the commands of God and to love him with all their heart, soul, and strength. In the second reading, Jesus is acknowledged as the perfect sacrifice who has redeemed us. In the Gospel, Jesus proclaims the two greatest commandments are to love God completely and to love your neighbor as yourself.
Domenico 31A Del Tempo Ordinario
Let’s us review the Ten Commandments that God gives to us:
1.You shall worship the Lord your God and Him only shall you serve. 2. You shall not take the name of the Lord your God in vain. 3. Remember to keep holy the Sabbath day. 4. Honor your father and your mother. 5. You shall not kill. 6. You shall not commit adultery. 7. You shall not steal. 8. You shall not bear false witness against your neighbor. 9. You shall not covet your neighbor’s wife. 10. You shall not covet your neighbor’s goods.
Jesus told his disciples to observe the Ten Commandments. Jesus told them to keep the most important commandments: to love God and love their neighbor. It is perhaps for us easy to love an unseen God, but it is often very difficult for us to love our neighbors. Jesus tells us to not only love our neighbors, but also to love our enemies. How can we love our enemies? On the cross, Jesus prays to God the Father to forgive all those who blasphemed, tortured and crucified him. We are reminded that if we cannot love our enemies, we really do not love God.
In today’s Gospel of Mark, Jesus tells the scribe the most important commandment: “You shall love the Lord your God with all your heart, … You shall love your neighbor as yourself.” (Mark 12:24-28)
In Biblical times, the scribes were lawyers. They knew 613 commandments of the law, but they did not know which one is the most important. The scribe, who asked Jesus, understood the commandments, and had been observing them. Jesus tells the scribe that he is near to the kingdom of God which means not yet. He has to continue to observe the commandments.
We are called to observe the ten commandments by loving God and loving our neighbors as ourselves. Perhaps this month of November ca remind us to extend our prayers and love to our loved ones who have gone before us.
Have a blessed week!

The Apostolic Penitentiary in Rome, charged with the granting of indulgences, has designated Saints Peter and Paul Church in the Archdiocese of San Francisco, California as a Vatican recognized site for Plenary Indulgence and has granted a Plenary Indulgence to the faithful who truly repent and are driven by charity under these certain conditions from November 9, 2024 until November 9, 2025. An indulgence is a remission before God of the temporal punishment for sin the guilt of which is already forgiven, which a properly disposed member of the Christian faithful obtains under certain conditions with the help of the Church which, as the minister of redemption, dispenses and applies authoritatively the treasure of the satisfaction of Christ and the saints.
