Leviticus 13:1-2, 44-46; 1 Corinthians 10:31-11:1; Mark 1:40-45. The Lord gives instructions to Moses and Aaron for how to deal with leprosy. In the second reading, Paul encourages the Corinthians to do everything for the glory of God. In the Gospel, a leper asks Jesus to make him clean, and after he is made so, he then begins to publicize the whole matter. (picture courtesy Gospel Images)

If the kneelers can hear our prayers!
For the last 80 years we have been using the kneelers at Saints Peter & Paul Church for our prayer needs. Sometimes we take this furniture for granted, the kneelers being shoved up or dropped down with a loud bang.
On January 9, 2024, all 200 kneelers were removed and put into a debris box. And for the last few weeks, we attended Mass without kneeling.

So why do we kneel down to pray?
“When we pray on our knees, the body prostrates itself and the heart surrenders itself. It reflects an attitude of faith.
To place ourselves on our knees is to “speak” adoration and penance, which requires a certain humility. Humility is a fundamental attitude for prayer; in humility we accept our condition as creatures, placing ourselves before Him, awaiting Him, aware of our complete dependence upon Him for our very existence.
This attitude makes us free, because it situates us in the truth of our human finiteness. We recognize that God is everything for us and that without his merciful love, we are, literally, nothing. To be on our knees, near the floor, somehow nourishes this attitude of humility and of interior stillness, so essential for adoration. To bend our knees before God is to recognize humbly that everything comes from Him.” (Excerpt from Aleteia published on 03/24/2017) .
Did we not feel our urge to kneel during the Consecration and Elevation, and after receiving Communion? But when we went back to our seats, the action to kneel seems missing?
We surely missed kneeling down these past few weeks: it did not feel the same.
On January 25th the new kneelers arrived, 25 boxes in all. And on January 26th, the installers came in and worked until 10:30pm.
New kneelers delivered!
New kneelers installed!
So now let us rejoice that the new kneelers are finally installed and the pneumatic action makes it quiet and hopefully makes us want to kneel and pray more. As we prepare for the 100 year anniversary of Saints Peter & Paul Church let us not forget the many parishioners and friends who supported the kneeler project.
Let us continue to use these kneelers and appreciate their function showing our humbleness for the glory of God. –Deacon Edward Te
